-
Battle Dress Uniform (BDU): A camouflage uniform utilized by members of the US Army, Army National Guard, Army Reserve, and Army JROTC.
-
Bisecting: The action of dividing an object into two equal parts.
-
Class A Uniform: Consists of an army green coat, trousers, and a long or short sleeve shirt complemented with a black four-in-hand tie or neck tab, along with authorized accessories.
-
Class B Uniform: Comprised of trousers and a long or short sleeve shirt; a tie or neck tab is mandatory with long sleeves and optional with short sleeves.
-
Chevron: Stiffened cloth pieces worn on the shoulders of Class A or B uniforms to display grade insignia; blank shoulder marks do not display insignia, allowing for pin-on insignia to be used.
-
Ferrule: A decorative metal cap on the end of a shoulder cord that prevents fraying; also serves as a protective ring on the ends of staffs or handles.
-
Fitted: The process of adjusting an item to fit the proper size or shape.
-
Formal Inspection: An official evaluation of JROTC units conducted on a predetermined schedule.
-
Garrison Cap: A type of headgear suitable for Class A or B uniforms, featuring braid for identification, which should match the cap's material.
-
Gigline: A straight line formed by aligning the shirt seam, zipper flap, and belt buckle on specific JROTC uniforms.
-
Hemmed: The technique of folding back and stitching down the edge of a garment to prevent fraying.
-
Insignia: Distinctive emblems, badges, or marks denoting office, honor, grade, or branch within the US Army, which may also signify capacity and duty assignment.
-
Nap: The soft and fuzzy finish on fabric created by raised short fibers on the surface.
-
Non-subdued: Describes items that are bright and shiny, in contrast to dull or flat finishes, such as polished pin-on insignia.
-
Precedence: The right or act of arranging elements according to rank or importance.
-
Pre-inspection: An informal check conducted before an official or formal inspection to ensure readiness.
-
Shoulder Marks: Similar to chevrons, these stiffened cloth pieces displayed on Class A or B uniforms indicate grade insignia. Blank ones do not show insignia; hence, pin-on insignia can be employed.

Sized: Refers to the dimensions and proportions of an object, classifying manufactured items like clothing into specific categories.
-
Tarnish: The process that dulls the shine and possibly discolors materials.
