Study Notes
Roll Cage Design and Regulations
- Roll cages must be designed to maintain integrity during normal operation, collisions, or rollovers.
- Each team must build a new roll cage annually; reusing previous roll cages is prohibited for the main event.
- Roll cage signature format: TEAM ID / SEASON YEAR / CAR NUMBER (three digits).
- Example signature: 25161 / 2025 / 087 for team XYZ.
- Signature must be stamped using a 6 mm number punch.
Roll Cage Structure
- Roll cages require a tubular steel space frame; all members must be fully welded without modifications.
- Bent members should not show kinks or detrimental deformation; bends limited to 30 degrees.
- Straight members must not exceed 1016 mm between Named Points; bent members, 838 mm.
Member Requirements
- Roll cage members constructed from steel tubes can be straight or bent.
- Terms defined in regulations: Frame consists of all tubular structures; Roll Cage includes primary and secondary members for driver protection; Members refer to elements connecting Named Points.
Exhaust System Regulations
- Exhaust pipe length is flexible but non-adjustable; it must have one inlet and one outlet.
- A loose or leaking exhaust system results in removal from competition until resolved.
- The complete exhaust system must lie within 100 mm of the vehicle's perimeter, ensuring safety and compliance.
- Engines must not direct exhaust toward the firewall; at least 100 mm clearance is required from the rerouted exhaust.
Muffler and Starting Devices
- Protective wire cages around mufflers are encouraged to minimize burn risk.
- Starter pull ropes may be extended for seated engine starting; starter motors are not allowed.
Alternator Specifications
- Approved alternators to generate power might be fitted; must comply with specifications from Briggs and Stratton.
- Available alternator sizes are 3, 10, and 20 Amperes.
Objective of Roll Cage
- Roll cages maintain space around the driver to protect against debris; stock fuel tank configurations are acceptable unless remote-mounted, which requires a debris shield.
- Control cover part number 697326 can be used, or teams may fabricate their own as long as functionality is equivalent.
Engine and Air Intake Modifications
- Idle speed adjustment is flexible, recommended at 1,750 RPM ± 100 RPM.
- Air cleaner parts can be relocated but must use specific Briggs and Stratton components; intake hoses have minimum length requirements.
- Changes to air filters must pass inspection and may affect engine performance negatively.
Carburetor Restrictions
- Modifications to carburetor jetting, float adjustments, or venturi configuration are strictly prohibited.
- Exhaust system changes must use specified tubing sizes and must securely mount the original muffler, avoiding vibration issues.
