What are the expectations for students in this class?

Students are expected to respect themselves, the school, and their peers. They are also expected to respect their own right to learn and that of their classmates. Responsibility and accountability are important in this class. Students are expected to be responsible for their actions and learning.

How will this course be taught?

This course will be taught in a manner that allows students of all ability levels to learn and succeed. Much of the learning will be done independently by the student, and when directed, in collaboration with fellow classmates. Interactive notebooks and labs will be used to engage students in the learning process. Google Classroom will be used for electronic access to notes and assignments.

What are the required supplies for this class?

Students are required to have a notebook for this class. It is recommended to have a college-ruled, spiral-bound notebook with 100+ pages and a folder. Students should have their notebook in class by Monday, August 21st. If they are unable to obtain a notebook, they should speak with Mr. Carousso.

What supplies are highly recommended for this class?

Multi-colored pens, colored pencils, highlighter, glue stick, ruler, headphones, index cards

What is the policy for absences in this class?

Students are expected to be in class each day and if they are absent, they are expected to contact the teacher or a classmate to find out what they have missed. It is the responsibility of the student to obtain any missing work. When students are absent, they will have one additional class period to turn in missing assignments from the period they missed.

What is the policy for technology use in this class?

Students are allowed to use chromebooks or other internet-capable devices for research during class. However, they are NOT allowed to be on their phones during class time. If necessary, phones will be confiscated and turned in to Learning Directors where they may be picked up later.

How is grading determined in this class?

Grading will be based on the percentage of points a student earns with respect to the total points for the course. Students will be assessed through quizzes, unit assessments, notebooks, projects, lab and class participation, and homework. Extra credit will be given from time to time throughout the semester, but not at the end of a grading period or semester to simply bump a student's grade.

Show up ready to learn, engage in academic collaboration, complete homework promptly, study/review before class, monitor progress and grades regularly, make-up missed assignments quickly.
