Inside each testis, sperm begin as blob-like cells called spermatogonia and undergo several stages of transformation into mature sperm with long tails. On average, a man will produce roughly 525 billion sperm during his lifetime and close to 1 billion per month.

The Female Reproductive System

The female reproductive system includes external genitalia like the vulva, internal structures such as the uterine tubes (fallopian tubes), uterus, cervix, vagina, and ovaries. Unlike the continuous production of sperm in males, females are born with a full set of eggs that ceases to grow after birth. From puberty onward, ovaries release one egg monthly as part of the menstrual cycle. During pregnancy, the fertilized egg develops inside the uterus until birth, while the mammary glands produce milk to feed the newborn baby.

The Process of Fertilization
