General Rules
- Badminton is a racquet sport played by either two opposing players (singles) or two opposing pairs (doubles).
- The objective is to hit a shuttlecock over a net and into the opponent's court, forcing them to fail to return it.
- Points are scored when the opponent fails to return the shuttlecock correctly.
- The game is played on a rectangular court divided by a net.
Scoring
- Points are scored when a player wins a rally.
- A rally begins when a player serves the shuttlecock.
- A player wins a point if the shuttlecock lands in the opponent's court, or if the opponent commits a fault.
- A fault can include hitting the shuttlecock outside the court boundaries, or hitting it incorrectly.
Serving Rules
- The serve must be made underhand.
- The shuttlecock must be hit below the server's waist.
- The server must hit the shuttlecock diagonally across the net during the serve.
- The server and receiver must stand in opposite service court halves.
Other Rules
- Players are not authorized to touch the net with their body during play.
- A player is not permitted to hit the shuttlecock in motion twice consecutively.
- The shuttlecock must land within the boundary lines when playing.
- Faults occurring during a rally are called by the umpire or referee.
