A person must register with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls if they engage in manufacturing, exporting, or temporarily importing defense articles.

A manufacturer who does not engage in exporting is not required to register.

The registration requirements do not apply to persons whose business activity is solely the production of classified technical data.

Anyone who fabricates articles for scientific purposes or research and development is exempt from registration.

Officers and employees of the U.S. Government are required to register with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.

Persons whose manufacturing and export activities are fully licensed under the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 are exempt from registration.

A person who qualifies for the exemptions in paragraphs (b)(2) or (b)(4) is exempt from the requirements for licenses or other approvals for exports of defense articles and defense services.

Legible means the quality of a letter that makes it difficult to identify it positively.

Records subject to this section must be maintained for a period of three years from the expiration of the license or other approval.

Readable means the quality of a group of letters that cannot be recognized as complete words or numbers.

If an agreement is not amended within 60 days, it will automatically be considered valid.

A registrant must renew their registration at least 60 days prior to the expiration date.

Failure to renew a registration within the specified timeframe will result in immediate cancellation of the registration.

Registrants are required to provide immediate notification if any listed individuals are convicted of violating U.S. criminal statutes.

Changes in a registrant's ownership do not need to be notified to the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.

Registrants can notify changes in their registration details as part of their annual renewal process.

Failure to notify the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls about indicted individuals may result in a waiver of fees for the registrant.
