Provides some level of security against unauthorized or unwanted changes in a program. They are designed so that data stored in them can be read, but not easily altered without special equipment.
Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EPROM)
It can be electrically overwritten with new data instead of being erased with ultraviolet light. Because it is nonvolatile memory, it does not require battery backup. It provides permanent storage of the program and can be changed easily using standard programming devices.
