MathGen is a program that generates randomly generated mathematics research papers. It generates professional-looking mathematics papers, including theorems, proofs, equations, discussion, and references. The program is a fork of SCIgen, a program that generates random papers in computer science. MathGen is meant to be a fun way to impress friends, colleagues, and tenure committees with your prolific research output, cheat on your Erdős number, or come up with thesis topics for your grad students.
The program uses a small subset of English and sentence templates, and its writing style is not far off from many published papers. Some argue that this shows a lack of creativity, while others believe it makes papers more accessible to those with a limited understanding of mathematics.
