- The Ramayana tells the story of the god Rama, the son of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya, his wife Sita, and brother Lakshmana.
- According to Hindu mythology, Lakshmana was an avatar (incarnation) of the snake king, Adisesha.
- The city of Ayodhya was built by Manu, who is said to be the progenitor of the human race.
- The Ramayana describes Sita, Rama, and Lakshmana’s time living in exile in the forest called Dandakaranya.
- The demon king Ravana, ruler of Lanka, was a devout follower of Shiva.
- Rama married Sita by breaking the Shiva bow, which was considered to be an impossible feat.
