The Philippine Interior Design Act of 2012
- RA 10350 was enacted on December 17, 2012, repealing RA 8534, to regulate and modernize the practice of interior design in the Philippines.
Objectives
- To examine, register, and license professional interior designers
- To supervise, control, and regulate the practice of interior design
- To develop the professional competence of interior designers through continuing professional education
- To integrate the interior design profession
Definition of Terms
- Interior design refers to the science and art of planning, specifying, selecting, and organizing surface finishes and materials that include interior design elements
- Professional interior designer holds a valid certificate of registration and a valid professional identification card issued by the Board and the Commission
Commission and Board
- The Commission refers to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)
- The Commission Chairperson is Hon. Charito A. Zamora
- The Board of Interior Design is composed of a Chairperson, Sonia S. Olivares, and two members, Maria Carlota Hilvano and Vincent Louie Tan, appointed by the President of the Philippines
Scope of Professional Practice of Interior Design
- Consultation, advice, direction, evaluation, budgetary estimates, and appraisals
- Schematic interior design development, design development, execution of professional contract documents, and programming of construction phases
- Preparation of interior design plans, design drawings, interior construction details, and technical specifications
- Interior construction administration, supervision, coordination of alteration, preservation, or restoration of interior spaces
- All other works that require professional competence of the interior designer, including teaching interior design subjects
Qualifications of Board Members
- Must be a citizen and resident of the Philippines
- Must be a degree holder in BSID, BID, BFA, or major in interior design from a recognized school, college, or university in the Philippines or abroad
- Must be a registered interior designer with a valid certificate of registration and professional identification card; active practitioner of interior design for at least 10 years
- Must not be a member of any faculty of any school
- Must not be connected with a review center
- Must be in good standing as a member of the duly accredited professional organization of interior designers, but not a trustee or officer
- Must not have been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude or civil/criminal offense
