Study Notes

Quadratic Functions

  • Characteristics of a quadratic function include a parabolic graph, which forms a U-shape that opens either upwards or downwards, depending on the sign of the x squared term. The point at which the parabola changes direction is known as the vertex, and it exhibits symmetry about a vertical line, called the axis of symmetry. Additionally, the quadratic function has either a maximum point, if it opens downward, or a minimum point, if it opens upward.

Linear Functions

  • A linear function is defined by the formula (y = mx + b), where (m) is the slope and (b) is the y-intercept.

Probability

  • The probability of an event happening is: the desired outcomes/the total outcomes.

Quartiles and Scores

  • If a score represents the third quartile (Q3), it means that 3/4 of the scores in the data set fall at or below this value. This statistical measure is crucial for understanding score distribution and identifying performance thresholds among the students.

Mean Calculation

  • The average or mean of a set of data values is the sum of them divided by the number of data values
