PVSyst performs simulations over a full year in hourly steps.

Study Notes

PVsyst Overview

  • PVsyst is a software used for the study, sizing, simulation, and data analysis of complete PV systems.
  • It is also a useful educational tool.

PVsyst Simulation

  • PVsyst offers two levels of solar simulation: Preliminary Design and Project Design.
  • Preliminary Design is a rapid estimation tool suitable for pre-sales designs.
  • Project Design is a more detailed simulation that requires hundreds of parameters and decisions.

PVsyst Tutorial

Step 1: Open PVsyst

  • The main page includes four main parts: Project Design & Simulation, Recent Projects, Documentation, and Pvsyst User Workspace.
  • Project Design & Simulation is the main part of the software, used for the complete study of a project.

Step 2: Open Project Management & Simulation

  • This step involves working on a project, either standalone or grid-connected.
  • Project Management & Simulation has two parts: Project and Variant.

Project Details

  • Project contains the geographical site of the system, meteorological data, and general parameters like Albedo definition and sizing conditions.
  • Project filenames have the extension *.PRJ.

Variant Details

  • Each system variant contains detailed definitions of the system, resulting in a simulation calculation.
  • Variant definitions include solar panels, inverters, geometrical layout, shadings, electrical connections, and economic scenarios.
  • Variant files have the Project's filename with extensions such as VC0, VC1, VCA, etc., up to 936 Variants per project.

Step 3: Enter Project Details, Site & Weather data

  • Enter a project name, select a site file, and navigate to the desired location on the interactive map.
  • Press "Accept Selected Point" to populate the meteo file.

Step 4: Select Type & Orientation of PV Panel System

  • This step involves selecting the type and orientation of the PV panel system using the options in the Variant part of the program.

Orientation Details

  • The solar panels are installed on a fixed tilted plane with a tilt and azimuth angle.
  • The azimuth angle is defined by the angle between the South direction and the direction where the panels are facing.

PVsyst is a tool used for studying, sizing, and simulating complete PV systems. It offers two levels of solar simulation, Preliminary Design and Project Design, for rapid estimation and profitable solar system planning.
