Study Notes
Public Presentations by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue
- Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) aims to educate the public on fire prevention and life safety through presentations and facility tours.
- Requests for public education initiatives should be forwarded to the Public Education Bureau.
Request Process
- Requests for tours or presentations must be submitted online via the Miami-Dade County website.
- Steps to submit a request include navigating through “Your Government” to “Fire Rescue Community Outreach” and selecting relevant options.
- Important contact information (requestor's name, phone number) needs to be forwarded to the Public Education Bureau.
Processing Requests
- The Public Education Bureau acknowledges and processes all requests, confirming the nearest station and unit availability.
- If a unit is available, details will be added to both Battalion Chief's and Fire Alarm Office (FAO) calendars.
- Conflicts due to scheduled drills or excessive presentations may require rescheduling.
Cancellation Procedures
- If a unit cannot attend, the Unit Officer-in-Charge (OIC) must notify the requestor and the Public Education Bureau.
- Cancellation notifications from requestors will lead to removal from calendars, and the unit's OIC will be informed.
- Cancellations on the day of the presentation prompt immediate contact with involved personnel.
Substitutions
- The Battalion Chief may allow another unit to substitute during truck demonstrations if it meets the original criteria.
- If a station tour's scheduled units are unavailable, options include substitution or cancellation after consulting the requestor.
Bunker Gear Guidelines
- Department-issued bunker gear cannot be worn during public presentations.
- Two sets of demo bunker gear are stored at each Battalion Station for use during presentations, one for staff and another for attendees.
- Demo gear must be returned to the appropriate station post-presentation and is cleaned on predetermined dates.
Presentation Completion
- After a presentation, the Unit OIC is responsible for completing the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) report, detailing the event and outcomes.
