Study Notes

Design Process

  • The design process consists of 8 steps: Identify the need or problem, Research the need or problem, Develop possible solutions, Select the best possible solution, Geometric Model, Test and evaluate the solutions, Communicate the solutions, and Redesign.

Geometric Model

  • The Geometric Model is a step in the design process that involves constructing a geometric representation of a design using Computer-Aided Design (CADD) software.
  • CADD software used for constructing Geometric Models include AutoCAD, TurboCAD, SolidWorks, Catia, Master CAM, and Pro/Engineer.
  • The Geometric Model involves constructing a profile curve of the main body, revolution axis of the main body, profile curve of the handle, sweep path of the handle, and line drawing of the cup.

Testing and Evaluation

  • Testing and evaluating solutions may require engineering analysis, including finite element modeling, shape optimization, kinematics simulation, circuit analysis, Computer Aided Inspection, and Heat analysis.
  • The Finite-Element Method is used to calculate stress, strain, displacement, and other parameters, offering increased accuracy, drawing speed, and ease of revision.

CAD/CAM

  • CAD (Computer-Aided Design) is used for product design, engineering analysis, and documentation of the design.
  • CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) is used for process planning, NC part programming, material requirements planning, production scheduling, computer production monitoring, and computer process control, inspection, and assembly.
  • CAD/CAM integrates design and manufacturing activities using computer systems and computer science.

Problem Statement

  • The problem statement is to design a device that can clean the opposite side of a glass panel and overlapping area effectively.

Learn about the steps involved in problem-solving, from identifying the need to redesigning the solution. This quiz covers the process of finding a solution to a problem.
