Prime Numbers
Prime numbers are numbers with exactly two factors: 1 and the number itself. These numbers are fundamental in mathematics and have various applications, including in cryptography for secure communication. Some examples of prime numbers include 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, and 13. Numbers like 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 17 are all considered prime numbers because they have exactly two factors.
Composite Numbers
Composite numbers, on the other hand, have more than two factors. A composite number has factors in addition to 1 and itself. The smallest composite number is 4, as it has factors 1, 2, and 4. Examples of composite numbers include 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, and so on.
Properties of Composite Numbers
Composite numbers have properties such as:
- Every composite number has more than two factors
- The factors evenly divide composite numbers
- Composite numbers are their own factors too
