Presentation of Data
- Presentation of data refers to the organization of data into tables, graphs, or charts to make logical and statistical conclusions easily derived from collected measurements.
- Tabular presentation: method of presenting data using statistical tables, allowing large amounts of data to be stored and reorganized in a neat format (columns and rows).
- Parts of a table:
- Title
- Subhead
- Table body
- Table note
- Types of tables:
- Array table
- Frequency distribution table
- Cumulative distribution table
Tabular Presentation Example
- Example table: systolic blood pressure of 50 normal individuals
- Frequency distribution table: shows the number of times a value occurs in the given data set
- Cumulative frequency distribution table: calculated by adding each frequency from a frequency distribution table to the sum of its predecessors
Graphical Presentation
- Graphical presentation: constructed in relation to two axes (X and Y) with subcategories of variables on the X-axis and frequency of categories on the Y-axis
- Types of graphical presentation:
- Bar chart: represents data or numbers with rectangular bars with heights or lengths proportional to the values they represent
- Histogram: shows the data in the frequency distribution table
- Frequency polygon: a line graph where frequency is plotted against class midpoint
- Frequency curve: obtained by drawing points smoothly by hand
- Pie chart: a circular statistical graphic divided into slices to illustrate numerical proportion
- Scatter plot: show the relationship between two variables
- Kaplan-Meier Curve (survival curve): measures the fraction of patients living for a certain amount of time after treatment
- Line chart: displays information as a series of data points connected by straight line segments
