Sentence Structure of Present Simple
Affirmative Sentences
- Subject + Verb (base form) + ...
- Example:
- I work at 8 am.
- You live in Paris.
- He studies English.
- She likes coffee.
- It rains in winter.
- We go to school.
- They speak French.
Negative Sentences
- Subject + do/does not + Verb (base form) + ...
- Example:
- I do not work at 8 am.
- You do not live in Paris.
- He does not study English.
- She does not like coffee.
- It does not rain in winter.
- We do not go to school.
- They do not speak French.
Interrogative Sentences
- Do/Does + Subject + Verb (base form) + ...?
- Example:
- Do I work at 8 am?
- Do you live in Paris?
- Does he study English?
- Does she like coffee?
- Does it rain in winter?
- Do we go to school?
- Do they speak French?
Short Answers
- Yes: Subject + Verb (base form) + ...
- No: Subject + do/does not + Verb (base form) + ...
- Example:
- Do you like coffee?
- Yes, I like coffee.
- No, I do not like coffee.
- Do you like coffee?

Affirmative Sentences
- Subject is followed by the base form of the verb
- No do/does is used in affirmative sentences
- Examples:
- I work at 8 am
- You live in Paris
- He studies English

- It rains in winter

Negative Sentences
- Subject is followed by do/does not and then the base form of the verb
- Do is used with I, you, we, and they
- Does is used with he, she, and it
- Examples:

- It does not rain in winter
- We do not go to school
- They do not speak French
Interrogative Sentences
- Do/does is used before the subject in interrogative sentences
- The base form of the verb is used after the subject

Short Answers
- Yes answers use the base form of the verb
- No answers use do/does not and the base form of the verb
