- Audio-visual communication is an effective mode of communication.
- Sound enhances contact by intensifying the audience's knowledge of their sight and hearing.
- Sound is used to engage, detailing, reinforcing, highlighting, explaining, and building excitement in the audience.
- Presenters using audio-visual create better-prepared and more convincing audiences.
Importing Audio in Adobe Premiere Pro
- Navigate to the audio file: Double-click the Project panel
- Select the desired music/audio: Navigate the folder to the music is stored
Adding Audio to Sequence
- Double-click the imported audio file to open the Source panel and view the waveform.
- Drag the audio clip to the sequence within the Timeline panel, placing it on any audio track below the video tracks.
Adjusting Audio Track Volume
- Press the spacebar to play or stop the sequence playback in the Program panel( upper right panel).
- Drag the blue playhead
- Adjust individual track volume: Choose Window>Audio Track Mixer>[sequence name] for the track mixer.
- Playback controls: Bottom of Audio Track Mixer to play, stop, loop.
- Adjust volume: Move sliders up/down for each track and use the Master control for overall level
- Note: Keep audio levels in the -6 to -3 dB range.
- Alternatively, adjust volume by clicking on the effects control.
Applying Different Audio Effects
Audio Swells
- Audio swells are transition sound effects that build emotion, tension, or surprise.
- Use music or sound effects to create swells.
To create audio swells:
- Drag the audio clip into the timeline, reverse the sound.
- Right-click to select "Speed/Duration," then hit “Reverse”
- Add atmosphere: Include music/sound effects, and make sound more ominous.
- Find the "Pitch Shifter" in the Effects panel to manipulate the sound.
Ring Out Effect
- This can be applied to music, dialogue, or sound effects.
- Adding reverb can end songs faster or create drama
- Get the effect: Click "Effects," choose "Surround Reverb," drag to the timeline.
- Isolate audio clip: Choose where the ring out occurs, then extend as needed.
Pitch Shifting
- Pitch Shifting is when you alter a selected voice within an audio clip in order to produce a higher or lower pitch of voice.
- First isolate desired area: Select with the razor tool.
- Find "Pitch Shifter” in the Effects Panel
- Apply the effect
- Go to Effect Controls to manipulate settings with a preset
- Alternatively, you can adjust the existing settings.
Whoosh Transition Sound Effect
- This is a sound aligned with a cut for excellent transitions.
- To execute: Download a “whoosh" effect (Epidemic Sound), import, drag into your sequence, and align with the cut.
Underwater Muffled Sound Effect
- You can alter sound when the scene is above and below water to create the effect of sound under water
- Apply a lowpass filter: Can be found in the Effects Panel.
- Create keyframes around the desired points above and below water and adjust the cut off to allow for more or less distortion.
- Lower cut off underwater: Use a higher cut off above water
Device Audio Effect (Sound from TV, Radio, Intercom)
- This effect is editing sound to replicate sound from devices.
- In Effects Panel scroll to Essential Sound
- In Dialogue, Music, & Sound Effect Drop down menu, explore presets.
- Click Dialogue, choose “From TV” / “From Radio” and adjust.
