  • Types of signal processing:
    • Analog Signal Processing: manipulating continuous time signal using analog circuit
    • Digital Signal Processing: manipulating discrete time signal using digital circuit or computer
    • Statistical Signal Processing: using statistical methods to analyze and manipulate signals
    • Adaptive Signal Processing: using adaptive algorithms to process signals in real-time
    • Image Processing: processing signals that are two-dimensional or three-dimensional images
    • Audio Processing: processing signals that are sound or music

Power System

  • Main source of power
  • Consists of generation, distribution, and transmission systems
  • Uses various forms of energy, such as coal, diesel, and converts into electrical energy
  • Devices connected to the system, including synchronous generators, motors, transformers, circuit breakers, and conductors

Power Plant and Transmission

  • Power plant: main source of power, converted into electrical energy
  • Generating Station: fuel (coal, water, nuclear energy, etc.) is converted into electrical energy
  • Standard Voltage: 220V to 245V
  • Radial Distribution System: cheapest system to build and widely used in sparsely populated areas
  • Loop Network Transmission Lines: transports energy from generating station to bulk receiving station and interconnects two or more generating stations

Electronics

  • Branch of science that deals with the study of flow and control of electrons or electricity
  • Study of behavior and effects in vacuum gases, semiconductors, and devices that use electronics
  • Components:
    • Passive Components: resistor, inductor, capacitor (receive energy, dissipate, absorb, or store in an electric field or magnetic field)
    • Active Components: can deliver power or power gain in an electric circuit for infinite duration of time (diode, transistor, SCR)
