• Printed media is dubbed "traditional media" because it is the oldest form of information transfer, aside from dance and oral dissemination.
• The history of printed media can be attributed to Johannes Gutenberg's patent in the movable type, but the earliest printing press appeared in China in 932.
• Earlier forms of printed media include cave drawings and inscriptions of early humans.

History of Printed Media in the Philippines

• The Philippine Magazine, launched in 1905, was perhaps the first national magazine in circulation.
• However, it was not "popular" since it was in English and not accessible to the majority, particularly at the period when English education had barely started.

Comics/Komiks

• The first comic strip in the Philippines, "Kenkoy", was created by Antonio “Tony” Velasquez in 1928.
• "Kenkoy" was first published as a filler in Ramon Roces' magazine, Liwayway, and generated several imitators.
• The comic strip was still being worked on by Velasquez in 1988.
