Pollution is the act of a harmful or damaging substance being released into the environment.

The five recognized categories of pollution are air, land, water, noise, and light.

Air pollution can be caused by small particulates present in the air, such as soot or ash from the burning of a substance, as well as the release of toxic gases from burning fossil fuels.
