Policy 325 - Performance of Duties

• The New Lenox Fire Protection District policy establishes expectations for members' daily performance.
• The goal is to provide safe and appropriate responses to emergencies and for members to offer professional and competent services.
• All members must be familiar with and adhere to policies, standard operating procedures, job descriptions, assigned duties, and lawful instructions from superiors.
• Upon any emergency alarm, all members must immediately cease activities, report to their assigned apparatus, respond promptly to the dispatched fire or emergency, and make every reasonable effort to perform to the best of their abilities.
• Members are expected to maintain the highest standards of efficiency while performing their duties.
• Unsatisfactory performance may include:
  • Excessive or unauthorized leave
  • Tardiness
  • Lack of knowledge
  • Failure to meet work standards for their position
  • Any failure to demonstrate good conduct
  • Insubordination
  • Noncompliance with department policies, guidelines, and orders
• All members must take reasonable safety precautions and use good judgment to avoid injury to themselves or others while on duty.
• Members must report or prevent unsafe behavior.
• Every member is required to hold a valid state-issued driver’s license and have the necessary training for their assigned duties.
• Members must be familiar with the state vehicle code, department-specific driving manuals, and other relevant department policies and procedures.
• Any changes in driver’s license status must be reported to the supervisor.
• Failure to maintain a valid driver’s license may result in disciplinary actions.
• All members must complete and submit reports, forms, and memos by the end of their shift (unless approved by a Battalion Chief), following all applicable policies.
• All written communication must be truthful and complete.
• No member is allowed to knowingly enter or cause to be entered inaccurate, incomplete, false, or improper information.
• Members must wear their badges and identification cards while on duty, unless it is impractical or dangerous to their safety or risks an investigation.
• Members must provide their name and department identification number to anyone who requests it, except if their personal safety is at risk.
• All members are expected to report any lost or recovered department badge, identification card, manual, key, or equipment to their supervisor.
• If equipment is lost, a police report must be filed in the jurisdiction where the loss occurred.

Performance of Duties

• Unsatisfactory performance, including excessive or unauthorized leave, tardiness, lack of knowledge, failure to meet work standards, misconduct, insubordination, and policy violations, may lead to disciplinary action.

Safety

• Members are responsible for exercising reasonable precautions and sound judgment to prevent injury to themselves and others while on duty.

• Reporting or preventing unsafe behavior is expected of all members.

Driver's License

• All members must possess a valid state-issued driver's license and appropriate training for assigned duties.

• Familiarization with the state vehicle code, departmental apparatus operation manuals, and relevant policies is required.

• Any changes in driver's license status must be reported to the supervisor.

• Failure to maintain a valid driver's license according to classification specifications may result in disciplinary action.

Written Communication

• All members are responsible for completing and submitting required reports, forms, and memos by the end of their shift, unless approved by a Battalion Chief, and in accordance with departmental policies.

Fire Department Identification
