Study Notes

Type Effectiveness in Pokémon

  • Type effectiveness determines whether a Pokémon's attack is effective or super effective against an opposing Pokémon.
  • There are 18 types in the game, and understanding their interactions is crucial for strategic gameplay.

Type Interactions

  • Super effective: Deals more damage to the opposing Pokémon.
  • Not very effective: Deals less damage to the opposing Pokémon.
  • Neutral: Deals normal damage to the opposing Pokémon.
  • Resistant: Reduces damage taken from an opposing Pokémon's attack.
  • Super resistant: Reduces damage taken from an opposing Pokémon's attack even more.
  • Immunity (main series only): Completely negates damage from an opposing Pokémon's attack.

Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB)

  • When a Pokémon uses a move that matches its type, it gets an additional bonus, increasing damage dealt.

Type Chart in Pokémon Go

  • Follows the same type interactions as the main series, except for immunity.
  • Fairy-type Pokémon are resistant to Dragon-type attacks instead of being immune.

Type Interactions Examples

  • Mewtwo using Ice Beam against Venusaur (Grass-type) will deal a lot of damage since Grass-types are weak against Ice-type attacks.
  • Kyurem using Ice Beam against Venusaur will deal even more damage due to STAB.

Pokémon Go Type Effectiveness Differences

  • No type immunities in Pokémon Go, unlike in the main series.
  • Removed immunities include Fairy-type immunity to Dragon-type attacks.
  • Immunities now work as an additional tier of resistance, reducing damage taken by approximately two-thirds.
