Poem: The Wind

Emperor Aurangzeb banned the playing of the pungi in the royal residence because it had a shrill unpleasant sound.

A barber of a family of professional musicians decided to improve the tonal quality of the pungi.

The pungi was transformed into the shehnai by choosing a pipe with a natural hollow stem that was longer and broader, and making seven holes on the body of the pipe.
