Korean Military Service and Family Conflict

The young South Korean tries to avoid military service by becoming very fat, but this affects his family.

Eating spicy fried chicken, sweat potato pizza, jajang noodles, hot dogs and ice-cream sundaes makes him obese, but he cannot get his weight more than 90 kilos.

Abeoji tries to make him vomit, but his mother is always behind him.

He tells his family that he is less than ten kilograms from his goal, but his father is hysterical and unreasonable.

Abeoji pushes his chopsticks at his son's eyes and tells him he is a communist.

His older sister tells him that if he eats any more, he will get through the front door.

Abeoji says that the Americans did for them what they should have done for themselves.

Wonsu's father is very disappointed in him because he does not want to serve in the military; Wonsu's older sister and older cousins are exempt from military service because they are male.

Wonsu is not content with the current state of North Korea and wants to help the starving people there.

Abeoji is a retired navy officer and he is very disappointed in Wonsu because he does not want to follow in his footsteps.

Wonsu tries to persuade his father to allow him to serve in the military for ten years, but his father is not convinced and forces him to get a job instead.

Wonsu starts working as a delivery driver for Chinese food and he makes double the salary on weekends.

Wonsu is still not content and he wants to help the North Korean people even more.

A young man is locked in his room by his older brother after he accuses him of being lazy and not wanting to work hard.

The young man tries to open the door but it is chained shut. He then takes off his clothes and looks in the mirror, realizing that he is overweight and has no chance of escaping.

Sa-jin, a graduate student who lives on the floor above, comes to the rescue and helps the young man get dressed and out of the house.

The young man is disappointed that he will not be able to live with his older brother, but is happy to have been saved from Abeoji.

The young man goes on to find a new place to live and eventually succeeds.

Obba goes to meet his friends and smells the diesel.

He listens to rap music and is late for lunch.

Jina, Hwangmin, and their friends decide to see a movie or practise, but Obba wants to go to his room.

Abeoji tells the relatives that Obba is an disgrace to his country and that he's not going to the wedding.

The relatives are angry and disappointed and Obba is embarrassed.

Later that day, Abeoji takes Obba to his room to pack his bags.

Abeoji tells Obba that he's moving in with them and Obba is angry but agrees to go.

Abeoji is still working to pay off his father's debt and is worried about his future.

Obba is embarrassed and ashamed of himself, but he is proud of his country and his family.
