- As a discipline, history has existed for about 2,400 years and is as old as mathematics and philosophy.
- The term history was adapted into classical Latin, acquiring a new definition. Historia became known as the account of the past of a person or group of people through written documents and historical evidence.
- History relates to everything that happened in the past and a type of research or inquiry.
- History is primarily concerned with human activities in the past and can be broken down into three dimensions.

- History focuses on human activities, which is unique from fields like theology that focus on the divine.
