Philippine Educational Levels
- Educational levels in the Philippines are divided into Basic Education, Technical Vocational Education, and Higher Education
- Basic Education encompasses Kindergarten to Grade 12, including elementary and secondary levels, overseen by the Department of Education (DepEd)
- Technical Vocational Education includes post-secondary training regulated by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and is closely coordinated with DepEd for the TechVoc track in Senior High School
- Higher Education includes Baccalaureate or Bachelor degrees and Master’s and Doctorate degrees, regulated by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)
Types of Curricula in Schools
- Recommended Curriculum: This is the blueprint for the curriculum, set by government agencies like DepEd, CHED, and TESDA, as well as international bodies like UNESCO
- Written Curriculum: This encompasses documentation of the recommended curriculum, including course outlines, syllabi, modules, textbooks, and instructional guides, with the teacher's lesson plan being a core element
- Taught Curriculum: This is the actual implementation of the written curriculum in the classroom, guided by the teacher and learners, influenced by the teaching style of the teacher and learning styles of the students
- Supported Curriculum: Educational resources and facilities that support teaching and learning, including print materials (books, charts, posters, worksheets), non-print materials (PowerPoint presentations, movies, models, realias), and learning spaces (playground, science lab, audio-visual rooms, museums, market or plaza)
- Assessed Curriculum: Assessment of the taught and supported curriculum to determine the effectiveness of the teacher in facilitating learning, this includes assessment for learning, assessment as learning and assessment of learning
- Learned Curriculum: The curriculum that the students have actually absorbed and incorporated into their knowledge and behavior, indicated by positive changes in students’ skills and knowledge
- Hidden/Implicit Curriculum: Unplanned influences on student behavior that can come from peer pressure, school environment, media, parental influence, cultural practices, societal changes, or natural disasters. Teachers are encouraged to be aware of the hidden curriculum and consider incorporating its elements into the written curriculum.

- Plans the Curriculum - Teachers create plans for the curriculum implementation at different levels, considering factors like learners, support materials, time, subject matter, desired outcomes, and learners’ context
- Initiates the Curriculum - Teachers take the lead in implementing new curricula recommended by educational agencies like DepEd, CHED, TESDA, UNESCO and UNICEF, even in the presence of challenges and difficulties
- Innovates the Curriculum - Teachers are encouraged to creatively adapt and improve the curriculum to make it more effective and relevant, recognizing that a single static curriculum cannot perpetually fit all contexts
- Implements the Curriculum - Teachers bring the curriculum to life by engaging with students, using supporting materials, and striving to achieve desired learning outcomes
