- Salok: Swinging the arm downward and upward, in front of the body, like scooping. The trunk bends following the arm's movement. Tagalog dance term.
- Saludo: Partners bow to each other, the audience, or opposing dancers with feet together. Spanish origin, used in almost all Philippine dances.
- Sarok: Placing the right foot in front of the left foot, slightly bending the body forward, and crossing the hands from the right to the left. Visayan dance term.
- Slide: Gliding the foot smoothly along the floor, with or without weight transfer.
- Stamp: Bringing the foot forcibly and noisily onto the floor, with or without weight transfer.
- Tap: Lightly rapping the ball or toe of the free foot on the floor, flexing the ankle while keeping weight on the other foot.
- Whirl: Making fast turns by moving the feet in small steps, either to the right or left. Arms in lateral position.
Dance Step Characteristics
- Some Philippine dance steps are the same as foreign dances, but the execution method differs.
- Some steps have no English equivalent names, and thus retain native names (e.g., "kuradang," "bacui," "Engano").
