Resident Rights and Respect
- A husband is allowed private visits with his wife, who is a resident.
- Allow residents to express their feelings.
- Residents are allowed to keep personal items with them.
- Residents have a right to privacy and confidentiality (HIPAA).
- With the resident's permission, help look around the resident's room if they report a missing item.
Communication and Emotional Support
- Ask residents why they feel a certain way to understand their concerns.
- Encourage residents to talk about their feelings.
- When a resident is crying, ask what is wrong.
- Acknowledge and address a resident's worries about changes in their life.
- Encourage a resident's involvement in their own care by offering choices.
Range of Motion
- Assist residents with ROM exercises, encouraging them to work slowly and rest often if they find the exercises difficult.
- Move each joint to its fullest range or until the resident feels discomfort.
Observation and Reporting
- Report any new confusion in a normally alert resident to the charge nurse.
- Report a resident not having a bowel movement for more than 3 days to the charge nurse.
