    Study Notes

Science is an umbrella term for multiple disciplines of study that aim to understand the natural world through observation and experimentation. Biology studies living organisms, including plants, animals, and microbes, exploring their structure, function, growth, reproduction, evolution, distribution, interaction with each other, and the environment. Chemistry explores matter, its composition, how it interacts with energy and how one type of material can change into another. Physics delves into forces acting in nature such as gravity, motion, heat, light, sound, electricity, magnetism, radioactivity, nuclear power, and atomic energy.

These fields have overlapping areas where they interact with each other. For instance, physicists work in many different branches of science, which may involve applications of mathematics or computing; chemists also deal with structural problems, optics, quantum theory, spectroscopy, and crystal investigations in addition to organic synthesis; while biochemists and molecular biologists make use of all these physical laws and principles, dealing mostly with life processes, often using special techniques of their own devising.

Biology includes botany (the study of plant life) and zoology (the study of animal life), along with the related sciences of mycology (fungi), parasitology (parasites), virology (viruses), and bacteriology (microorganisms). It deals largely with the phenomena of life from both the outside and inside viewpoints, but also enters upon the realm of genetics, which has been developed chiefly by biologists.

Chemistry concerns itself primarily with the analysis of matter, though most chemical workers do much more. They develop new methods of making chemicals more efficiently, purifying them, determining what they contain, finding out how they react with each other, analyzing their effects on human beings or other living things, etc. Many of the so-called applied sciences—such as metallurgy, mining, agriculture, pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, engineering, and architecture—are really parts of chemistry because they manipulate materials or the elements of life.

Physics addresses numerous aspects of the universe, incorporating astronomy, space exploration, geophysics, mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity, and magnetic force. It encompasses all fields concerned with energy exchange between bodies, especially gravitational attraction, mechanical action, heating, lighting, electric currents, and chemical reactions.

Science is a dynamic field that continues to grow, with new knowledge being discovered every day. As scientists continue to explore the mysteries of our universe, we gain deeper understanding of the world around us and the potential for technological advancement and further scientific discovery.
