    Study Notes

Science is an interdisciplinary field of study concerned with understanding the natural world through observation, experimentation, and the development of theoretical explanations. It encompasses three main branches: biology, chemistry, and physics. Each branch explores different aspects of our universe, yet they often overlap and complement each other. Here's a brief overview of these core sciences:

    Biology

Biology is the study of living organisms, their structure, function, growth, evolution, distribution, and interaction with the environment. It involves life processes such as respiration, nutrition, reproduction, excretion, growth, adaptation, response to stimuli, and transmission of heritable characteristics. In recent years, molecular biology has become increasingly important due to its role in gene therapy and genetic engineering; this field focuses on how genes control cellular activities within all living beings from single cells to entire ecosystems.

    Chemistry

Chemistry is the science of matter, energy changes, chemical reactions, and the synthesis of various compounds. Atomic theory provides chemists with tools to understand chemical bonding, which enables them to predict and manipulate physical properties like density, melting point, boiling point, solubility, reactivity, color, odor, texture, flammability, radioactivity, etc., without conducting experiments every time. This knowledge helps us create new materials with specific purposes, design drugs to cure diseases, develop fuels, fertilizers, plastics, artificial fibers, resins, dyes, cosmetics, medicines, soaps, artificial sweeteners, deodorants, refrigerators, air conditioners, pesticides, insecticides, fungicides, preservatives, etc..

    Physics

Physics deals with the fundamental principles governing the behavior of objects, energy, and the force between objects. It includes mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, optics, quantum mechanics, solid state physics, and nuclear physics. For example, physicists can explain why a ball falls downward when dropped or thrown upwards and stops moving once it reaches the ground using Newton's laws of motion. Similarly, concepts like kinetic energy (which describes the speed) and potential energy (which describes the position) help scientists determine the total energy of any object in space or motion. These ideas allow us to make predictions about future events based on past observations and measurements.

These three disciplines interact constantly because everything around us - whether organic or manmade - consists of atoms, molecules, elements, compounds, mixtures, solutions, suspensions, emulsions, colloids, gases, liquids, or solids. Hence, one cannot fully comprehend something isolated from another aspect related to it. Science, therefore, offers us an integrated viewpoint regarding nature and empowers researchers and students alike to understand phenomena better.
