Organization as an Open System
- Inputs: Resources like people, money, and materials.
- Transformation Process: Workflow/processes that create the product. Crucially, this includes customer and client feedback in that business survival relies on customer feedback.
- Outputs: Finished goods and services. Includes feedback from consumers.
Performance
- Value-Added: Occurs when an organization increases the worth of resources through operations. Results in profit for businesses and societal wealth for non-profits.
- Productivity: A measure of work performance (both quantity and quality) taking resource utilization into account.
- Effectiveness: Measuring goal accomplishment (doing things right).
- Efficiency: Doing things right (with minimal waste). This is related to performing tasks well and producing the desired result.
