Claisen Condensation
- Two molecules of an ester react to form a β-keto ester
- Example: CH₃CH₂COOCH₃ + CH₃CH₂OH → β-keto ester
Reduction of Acid Derivatives
- Reaction with LiAlH₄: R-C(=O)-OR → RCH₂OH + ROH
- Example: C₆H₅COOCH₃ + LiAlH₄ → C₆H₅CH₂OH + CH₃OH
