Oncogenic Viruses
- Some viruses contribute to cancer development.
- RNA viruses associated with cancer include Human T-cell leukemia virus (HTLV-1), which causes adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma.
- DNA viruses linked to cancer include Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). EBV is associated with Burkitt lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, nasopharyngeal and gastric carcinomas, and primary CNS lymphoma in immunocompromised individuals.
- Hepatitis B and C viruses (HBV and HCV) are linked to hepatocellular carcinoma, a liver cancer arising from cirrhosis.
- Human papillomavirus (HPV) causes benign squamous papillomas (warts) and squamous cell carcinomas, predominantly in the cervix but also in the vulva, vagina, penis, anus, and oral cavity.
- Herpes virus type 8 (HHV8) is associated with Kaposi sarcoma.
Bacterial Carcinogens
- Helicobacter pylori is a bacteria linked to gastric adenocarcinoma and gastric lymphomas (MALT).

Description
This quiz explores the role of oncogenic viruses and bacterial carcinogens in cancer development. It covers various RNA and DNA viruses linked to specific cancers, including HTLV-1, EBV, HPV, and others, as well as the impact of Helicobacter pylori. Test your knowledge on how these pathogens contribute to different forms of cancer.
