The various levels of communication on the Internet are physical (bits), computer-to-computer (HTTP), and computer-to-application (APPs).
HTTP is the protocol used to transfer documents between a server and a client web browser.
IMAP is a protocol used for email delivery that filters emails and delivers them automatically.
SMTP is the protocol used to send messages between servers.
FTP is a protocol used to transfer files between computers.
A Web Service is a software component that is accessible over the internet, and it is used to provide a limited set of functions that can be accessed using standard internet protocols.
A Web Service can be exposed on the internet, and it can be found by searching for it using a search engine.
A Web Service can be found by browsing through its online description.
A Web Service can be accessed by either synchronous or asynchronous methods.
