Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS)
- Formulated in 1978 to safeguard workers' social, economic, and physical wellbeing
- Compliant with the Philippine Labor Code (Article 162)
Definition of Terms
- Employer: Includes any person acting directly or indirectly in the interest of an employer, including government-owned or controlled corporations and institutions
- Work Accident: An unplanned or unexpected occurrence that may or may not result in personal injury, property damage, work stoppage, or interference
- Employee: Any person hired, permitted, or offered to work by an employer
- Work Injury: Any injury or occupational illness suffered by a person, which arises out of or in the course of their employment
- Safety: Refers to physical or environmental conditions of work that substantially comply with the provisions of the OSHS
- Workplace: The office, premises, or work site where workers are habitually employed, including areas where workers without fixed or definite work sites regularly report for assignment
Duties of Employers, Workers, and other Persons
- Employers: Must furnish a place of employment free from hazardous conditions, provide complete job safety instructions, comply with the OSHS, and use approved devices and equipment
- Workers: Must use personal protection and safety equipment as required, follow work safe procedures, and report hazards to their employer
