- 1935: Commonwealth Act No. 1/ National Defense Act mandated two years of military training for male college students under President Manuel L. Quezon.
- 1941: 33 colleges and universities had ROTC units, which were suspended during World War II.
- 1980: Presidential Decree No. 1706 established compulsory national service for Filipino citizens with components in Civic Welfare, Law Enforcement, and Military Service.
- 1986: Republic Act No. 7077 created the Basic Reserve Officer’s Training Corps under President Corazon C. Aquino.
- 2001: ROTC Crisis emerged due to corruption, leading to student protests and the death of Mark Welson Chua, which catalyzed the passage of Republic Act 9163.
