Retention of Accommodation

  • An employee's option for retention of accommodation remains valid for one year, regardless of changes in their place of posting, unless they choose to change their option.
  • In exceptional cases, the employee may be allowed to change their option with the specific approval of the Head of the project/unit/department.

House Rent Allowance (HRA) Rules

  • Employees posted at NHPC establishments in 'Y' cities/towns are only eligible for HRA rates applicable to those locations, and cannot claim HRA for 'X' class cities/towns.
  • Employees posted at 'Z' class cities/towns must furnish a monthly certificate to claim HRA, which must be submitted by the 15th day of the following calendar month, but not later than 2 calendar months after the HRA claim month.

Retention of Accommodation and HRA

  • Employees transferred in the interest of the Corporation or on their own request may retain accommodation at their previous place of posting or draw HRA at their previous place of posting or any other place of their choice.
  • Employees inducted afresh and posted in a project/power station/unit may retain their family at their existing place of stay or any other place and draw HRA of that station.

Exercise of Option

  • An employee must exercise their option for retention of accommodation or HRA within 6 months of joining their new place of posting.
  • If an employee fails to exercise their option within 6 months, they will be deemed to have opted for shifting their family to the new place of posting and may be allowed HRA admissible at the new place of posting.

Eligibility for HRA

  • Employees are eligible for HRA if they live in a house owned by themselves, their spouse, children, father, or mother.
  • Employees living in a house owned by a Hindu Undivided Family in which they are a Co-partner are also eligible for HRA.
  • Unmarried employees are eligible for HRA if they have dependent parents retained at another place.
