New Lenox Fire Protection District Flag Policy
- The New Lenox Fire Protection District follows national and state protocols for flag display and etiquette.
- The flag should be displayed from sunrise to sunset on buildings and stationary flagstaffs.
- The flag can be displayed 24 hours a day if illuminated during the night.
- The flag should not be displayed in inclement weather unless it is an all-weather flag.
- The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously.
- The flag should never touch the ground, floor, water, or merchandise.
- The flag should not be stored or displayed in a way that allows for tearing, soiling, or damage.
- Damaged flags should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
- The New Lenox Fire Protection District will turn damaged flags over to either the New Lenox VFW or American Legion for proper disposal.
- Flags shall be flown at half-staff during national mourning periods declared by the President of the United States, the Governor of Illinois, or the Fire Chief of the New Lenox Fire Protection District.
- On Memorial Day, flags are flown at half-staff until 12:00 noon and then raised to the peak for the remainder of the day.
