Behind the Wheel Experience Requirements

• To drive on Nevada public roadways, you must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 21 years old, has a valid driver's license, and has at least one year of driving experience.
• Teen drivers under 18 must complete 50 hours of supervised behind-the-wheel experience.
• 10 hours of the total experience must be completed in darkness (night-time driving).
• Night-time driving experience is counted between 1/2 hour after sunset to 1/2 hour before sunrise.
• For example, if sunset is at 6:30 pm, night-time driving experience would start at 7:00 pm.
• Motorcycle licenses are exempt from the darkness requirement and must be completed in daylight only.
• If driver education is not available within a 30-mile radius or you don't want to take an online course, you must complete 100 hours of supervised driving experience, with 10 hours in darkness.
• You must keep a written log of your driving experience on the form provided by the DMV.
• Your parent or guardian must sign the log and submit it with your application for a full license.
• The log must be fully completed before taking the on-the-road skills test.
• Without proof of driving experience, you will not be able to obtain a full Nevada license.
