What are Resources?

• Natural resources are divided into two types: renewable and non-renewable.
• Non-renewable resources are natural resources that cannot be replenished easily.
• Renewable resources are natural resources that will not run out but can be replenished.
• Natural resources benefit us in various ways:
  • Provide us with water, food, materials, and energy.

Resources of Brunei

• Oil was discovered in Seria and Brunei in 1929 by two men, F.F. Mariott and T.G. Cochrane.
• In the 19th century, oil companies suspected Brunei had oil due to the presence of oil on the surface of the river.
• Many oil companies drilled for oil in places like Kuala Belait and Labi but found nothing.
• In 1926, F.F. Mariott and T.G. Cochrane, while cycling along the river from Belait, smelled oil near Seria.
• The discovery of oil in Seria transformed Brunei into a wealthy country.
