Red Blood Cell Indices
-
RBC (Red Blood Cell Count): Ranges from 3.5 to 5.9 million cells per microliter of blood. This measures the number of red blood cells in the blood.
-
HGB (Hemoglobin): A range of 115 to 170 grams per liter. Hemoglobin is the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. A lower value can suggest anemia, while a higher value could indicate dehydration or other factors.
-
HCT (Hematocrit): Ranges from 0.360 to 0.500. This measures the percentage of red blood cells in the total blood volume. It's often related to hemoglobin and reflects red cell mass.
-
MCH (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin): Ranges from 25 to 35 picograms. This is the average amount of hemoglobin within a single red blood cell.
-
MCHC (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration): Ranges from 320 to 370 grams per deciliter. This is the average concentration of hemoglobin within a single red blood cell. A low MCHC can suggest problems.
-
RDW-CV (Red Cell Distribution Width): Ranges from 11.5 to 14.5 percent. This measures the variation in the size of red blood cells. A high RDW could indicate a variety of conditions, some related to anemia or other blood disorders.
