• Pop Music: Generally characterized by catchy melodies, simple song structures, and often repetitive lyrics. Frequently uses electronic instruments, although acoustic elements can feature as well. Often aimed at a broad audience and emphasizes accessibility.

• Rock Music: Typically features electric guitars, often with powerful rhythms and vocals. Frequently incorporates distorted sounds and amplified instruments. Themes can vary greatly, but often explore social or personal issues. Subgenres like hard rock, progressive rock, punk rock, and metal exhibit divergence in sound and style.

• Jazz Music: Characterized by improvisation, swing rhythms (syncopation), and a complex harmonic structure. Features prominent use of brass instruments (saxophones, trumpets, trombones) and often utilizes a rhythm section (piano, bass, drums). Great diversity exists within jazz, with subgenres like bebop, swing, and fusion developing over time.

Can be categorized through instrumentation i.e. Celtic or Cajun.
