Multiplying by 8

• Multiplication is a quick way to add the same number multiple times.
• When we multiply by 8, we are adding the same number 8 times.
• Example: 3 x 8 means 3 added together 8 times (3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3), which equals 24.
• 1 x 8 = 8
• 2 x 8 = 16
• 3 x 8 = 24
• 4 x 8 = 32
• 5 x 8 = 40
• 6 x 8 = 48
• 7 x 8 = 56
• 8 x 8 = 64
• 9 x 8 = 72
• 10 x 8 = 80

Multiplying by 9

• When we multiply by 9, we are adding the same number 9 times
• Example: 4 x 9 means 4 added together 9 times (4+4+4+4+4+4+4+4+4), which equals 36.
• 1 x 9 = 9
• 2 x 9 = 18
• 3 x 9 = 27
• 4 x 9 = 36
• 5 x 9 = 45
• 6 x 9 = 54

Multiplying by 10

• Multiplying by 10 is like adding a zero to the end of the number you are multiplying.
• Example: 6 x 10 = 60
• 1 x 10 = 10
• 2 x 10 = 20
• 3 x 10 = 30
• 4 x 10 = 40
• 5 x 10 = 50
• 6 x 10 = 60
• 7 x 10 = 70
• 8 x 10 = 80
• 9 x 10 = 90
• 10 x 10 = 100

Fractions 1/2, 1/4, 1/3

• A fraction is a part of a whole.
• It shows how many parts of a whole you have.
• The bottom number (denominator) tells you how many equal parts the whole is divided into.
• The top number (numerator) tells you how many of those parts you have.
• 1/2 (one-half): The whole is divided into 2 equal parts, and you have 1 of those parts.
• 1/4 (one-quarter): The whole is divided into 4 equal parts, and you have 1 of those parts.
• 1/3 (one-third): The whole is divided into 3 equal parts, and you have 1 of those parts.

Equal Parts

• Equal parts mean that something is divided into pieces that are exactly the same size
• If a pizza is cut into equal parts, each slice is the same size.
• When sharing fairly, everyone gets an equal part.

One-half of the whole

• One-half of a whole means dividing something into two equal parts
• Imagine cutting a sandwich in half, each piece is one-half of the whole sandwich
• One-half is written as the fraction 1/2
• To find one-half, you share something equally between two

One-half of the group

• One-half of a group means dividing a set of objects into two equal groups.
• If you have 10 toy cars, one-half of the group would be 5 toy cars.
• To find one-half of a group, you share the group equally between two.
• You can count out the items and put one in each group until they are all gone.
