Multiple Treatments (Non-Chronic Conditions)
- Absence for multiple treatment, including recovery, is considered a serious health condition.
- This includes restorative surgery after an accident or injury, or for conditions that would likely result in more than three consecutive calendar days of incapacity without medical intervention.
Conditions Considered Serious Health Conditions
- Cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiation, etc.)
- Severe arthritis (physical therapy)
- Kidney disease (dialysis)
Conditions Not Considered Serious Health Conditions
- Cosmetic treatments (unless complications develop requiring inpatient hospital care)
- Routine physical, eye, or dental exams
Unable to Perform Position's Functions
- The health care provider finds the employee unable to work at all or perform any essential job function of the position.
Definition of Terms
- Key Employee: Salaried FMLA eligible employees who are among the highest 10% paid of all BSO employees.
- Parent: A biological parent or person who stands or stood in loco parentis to an employee when the employee was a son or daughter.
Leave Benefits
- Full-time employees are eligible to accrue leave time.

- Eligible employees may receive up to 12 weeks of leave.
- BSO requires employees to use all eligible accrued leave before entering a non-pay status in any 12-month period due to certain family and medical reasons.
