  • The intermingling of Persian, Central Asian, and Indian cultures under the Mughals gave birth to vibrant new forms of art, architecture, and literature celebrated for their richness, beauty, and elegance.

Literature

  • From the time of the Delhi Sultanate, Persian became the primary court language in India.
  • Faizi, Mirza Ghalib, Abul Fazl, Badauni, and Ferishta were prominent historians and poets who wrote in Persian during the Mughal period.
  • After Persian, Hindi was the most important language of the Mughal Empire.
  • Abdur Rahim, a navaratna in Akbar’s court, wrote dohas in Hindi, which are still recited in India.
  • Tulsidas authored the Ramcharitmanas, a work based on the life of Rama, in Hindi.
  • Surdas, a blind Bhakti saint from Agra, composed songs in Brajbhasha, a dialect of Hindi, centered on Radha-Krishna.
  • Urdu gained popularity during the Delhi Sultanate and continued to be supported by the Mughal rulers.

  • Miniature paintings are detailed paintings done in small sizes.
  • The vibrant colors used in paintings consisted of minerals, plants like indigo, precious stones, conch shells, pure gold and silver.
  • Fine brushes used to paint were made from animal hair.
  • Tutinama ('Tales of the Parrot') is a collection of old Persian tales and one of the first illustrated books produced during Akbar's reign, known for intricate calligraphy alongside drawings.
  • Jahangir encouraged realistic paintings of plants and animals.
  • Ustad Mansur, a famous painter at Jahangir's court, painted the dodo, an extinct bird.
