• The mouth is an opening in the face used for eating, breathing, and speaking

Gums

• Gums (encias) are tissues that cover and connect the teeth to the jaw bones

Hard Palate

• The hard palate (paladar duro) extends over the roof of the mouth
• The hard palate is formed from maxillae and palatine bones

Lower Lip

• The lower lip (labio inferior) is the fleshy tissue around the opening of the mouth which is closest to the chin called menton

Oral Cavity

• The oral cavity (cavidad bucal) is an opening in the face and is another word for mouth

Palatoglossal Arch

• The palatoglossal arch (arco palatogloso) is an arch-shaped structure at the back of the mouth

Soft Palate

• The soft palate (paladar blando) is located behind the hard palate and is made from tissue and muscle

Teeth

• The teeth (dientes) are hard structures in the mouth, used for biting and chewing
• Tooth is the singular form of teeth

Tongue

• The tongue (épais) is a thick, soft organ in the mouth which is used to taste food

Tonsil

• A tonsil (amigdalas) is made of lymphoid tissue
• A tonsil forms part of the immune system

Upper Lip

• The upper lip (labio superior) is the fleshy tissue around the opening of the mouth which is closest to the nose

Uvula

• The uvula (úvula) is a piece of soft tissue that hangs from the soft palate
• The uvula stops food from entering the nasal cavity
