Modern Physics
Modern physics is a broad field encompassing various subfields such as classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, thermodynamics, special relativity, general relativity, and cosmology. It deals with the principles of nature governing energy, mass, space, time, and force, aiming to explain natural phenomena using mathematical formulas. Quantum mechanics, for instance, explains the behavior of atoms, molecules, and photons; while relativistic mechanics describes the relationship between motion and gravity in macroscopic systems. Special relativity has shown us that nothing travels faster than light, leading to the development of Einstein's famous equation ( E = mc^2 ), relating mass and energy. General relativity takes this further, exploring how gravity affects spacetime itself. Cosmology seeks to explain the entire history of our universe, considering the initial conditions necessary for the Big Bang to occur, and how galaxies formed and evolved over billions of years.
Friction
Friction is the resistance experienced when two objects attempt to slide along each other. It occurs when microscopic parts of the surfaces of the materials rubbing together stick. Static friction resists changes in relative position without slipping, while dynamic friction causes movement when there is slippage. Coefficient of static friction represents the maximum force required to initiate sliding, and coefficient of kinetic friction signifies the minimum force needed to keep two bodies moving over each other. Surface roughness, humidity, temperature, material hardness, and other environmental aspects affect friction coefficients. Dry friction varies greatly depending on surface condition and load orientation. High loads cause larger forces under dry conditions, but oils reduce oppositional forces significantly.
