Study Notes
Equipment Identity Register (EIR)
- The EIR contains a database for validating International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) related to MS equipment, not subscribers.
- The EIR database can be remotely accessed by MSCs in the network and also by MSCs in a different PLMN.
EIR Database Structure
- The EIR database consists of three lists of IMEIs: White list, Black list, and Grey list.
- White list: contains IMEIs of valid MS equipment.
- Black list: contains IMEIs of MS reported stolen or to be denied service for some reason.
- Grey list: contains IMEIs of MS with problems (e.g., faulty software), but not severe enough to be blacklisted.
