Equipment Identity Register (EIR)

The EIR contains a database for validating International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) related to MS equipment, not subscribers.
The EIR database can be remotely accessed by MSCs in the network and also by MSCs in a different PLMN.

EIR Database Structure

The EIR database consists of three lists of IMEIs: White list, Black list, and Grey list.
White list: contains IMEIs of valid MS equipment.
Black list: contains IMEIs of MS reported stolen or to be denied service for some reason.
Grey list: contains IMEIs of MS with problems (e.g., faulty software), but not severe enough to be blacklisted.
