Duties and Responsibilities of Sirdar

• The sirdar is responsible for the district of the mine assigned to them by the manager or assistant manager.
• The sirdar must ensure proper observance of the requirements of the Act and regulations, and report any contravention to their superior official.
• The sirdar is responsible for conducting inspections and making reports, including examining edges of the goaf, checking supports, and presence of gas.

Inspections and Reports

• The sirdar must make inspections and reports as required by the regulations.
• The sirdar must pay particular attention to edges of the goaf, checking supports, and presence of gas during inspections.

Supervision and Control

• The sirdar must ensure that no inexperienced person is employed on any work except under the supervision of an experienced person.
• The sirdar may order any person out of the mine if they find them in a place other than the one assigned to them, and must report the matter to their superior official.
• The sirdar must see that the roof and sides of all traveling roadways and working places in their district are made and kept secure.

Safety Precautions

• The sirdar must ensure that a suitable wooden bunton or pole is kept at convenient places in the district to effectively test the roof.
• The sirdar must report to their superior official any deficiency in timber, support materials, appliances, and other necessaries required for the safe working of the district.
• The sirdar must see that no support is withdrawn except by means of a safety prop-withdrawer.

Emergency Response

• If the sirdar observes any dangerous place during inspections or receives a report of danger, they must withdraw all persons from the place and not leave until the danger is removed.
• The sirdar must take care that any dangerous operation is carried out with due precautions, and be present throughout the operation.
• The sirdar must cause the entrance to every place that is not in actual use to be fenced across the whole width to prevent persons from entering.

Accident Response

• The sirdar must proceed to the place of accident, inspect the place, and supervise rescue operations if required.
• The sirdar must report or send notice of the accident to the manager or assistant manager.
